Since it was first announced in January of 2007, Canadians have been asking when the Apple iPhone would be coming to Canada. Since that time, the iPhone has been introduced in the U.S. Britain, Germany, France, Ireland, Austria and later this year Canada.

Although rumoured for some time, Rogers this morning issued a terse press release announcing that Rogers had inked a deal with Apple and Canadians could expect the phone later this year.
No dates or pricing details were announced by Rogers wireless.

For the uninitiated, the iPhone is an Internet-enabled multimedia mobile phone with 8GB or 16GB of storage. The iPhone is designed and marketed by Apple. It comes with a multi-touch screen, virtual keyboard and in addition to phone service offers the ability to send and receive e-mail or browse the web through local Wi-Fi connectivity. The iPhone also comes with a built-in camera and portable media player.

The following is the text of Rogers statement today

Ted Rogers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Communications Inc. today issued the following statement: We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year. We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.
